INTRODUCTION
We at subtutious.com would like to think that we run a board that's a par above the rest. Most posts are generally on topic and are posted in the forums that they belong. And while certain debates can get fairly heated from time to time, there is generally no petty negativity. Most of our members are mature individuals that use common sense and have respect for one another.
While the administrators and moderators feel that most of our members know and respect these guidelines, it is nontheless a good idea to lay out some ground rules.
What follows is a list of general guidelines and rules that must be followed when using our forum.
1) SPAM/PARTY PROMO/ADVERTISMENTS/OFFTOPIC POSTS/"PLANTS"
You'll notice a variety of forums that you can use to post your information in, covering a decent range of topics. Please take a moment to look at the forum listings and descriptions to get a feel as to what you should post where.
For example: Forum news, questions and bullitens (such as this document) will be posted in "Website Info", FAO (For the Attention Of) should be posted in "Shouts And Attention", Music Discussion (DJ Promo, Production and Studio, other general music talk) should go in the forum by the same name, etc.
PROMO GOES IN THE PROMO SECTION - we cannot stress this enough! There is a forum for Calgary and Edmonton each, and also one for other cities. Please use these. DO NOT POST IN THE GENERAL SECTION, JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK IT GETS MORE ATTENTION - we know this, and we will STILL delete your posts, and possibly ban you! If you really wish to get your site that kind of press EMAIL webmaster@subtutious.com and Jasen will look into putting your flyer up on the front page. The terms vary for this but we are not whoring out for advertising money, at least not right now (
You will notice we make small exceptions to this rule sometimes, however you will also notice most parites that engage in this are also REAL active members. The mentality is that if you want to talk about your parties in other sections other than promo, you can be a real member of this community also instead of just a mouthpiece. Keep this in mind, and if you do chat about stuff, don't overdo it - no one likes a broken record.
If you want another way to promote - your sig is a good place to start, or even your avatar. Which brings us to.....
2) SIGNATURES AND AVATARS
Generally this is fair game. However, beware when you're using images, as they can either slow down browser access or mess up the tables on the website.
-- Keep your avatar size down to a max pixel width of 200.
-- Make sure your externally linked avatars and signature pictures are FAST and CONSISTENT - if the access to the server is sketchy, do not use the picture.
-- Be careful when linking from free webhosts that block referrers.
-- Avoid flash and animated GIFs, or at least make them as optimized as possible.
If a moderator or administrator notices or gets complaints about an avatar that is interfereing with the performance of the forums, we will probably just email you and ask that you fix it. If this goes ignored, we will remove the offending links ourselves.
Please also do not use any formatting or HTML that would mess with the table formatting.
Lastly remember, just becuase it looks good on your computer, doesn't mean that it will look good on everyone else's!
3) HARRASMENT/FLAMING/SLANDER/LEGAL ISSUES
As we said in the introduction:
MOST OF OUR MEMBERS ARE MATURE INDIVIDUALS.
This means we expect YOU, the reader, to be also.
This itself is taken from the phpBB default terms of service (which you agreed to upon application):
You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws.
Obviously, the vulgar and sex parts are not nessecarily enforced, we'd be lying to ourselves and our own debauchery if we were, but most of the other points are spot on. Respect your fellow members.
-- Do not flame someone just out of spite, hell, don't flame anyone period. There's more mature ways to settle your battles, and if you don't agree with this, you can take it elsewhere.
-- Keep the drug talk to a minimum.
-- Do NOT use the personal message system to threaten people. Obviously the purpose of the PM system is to talk to people about stuff you can't nessecarily on the forums or don't want to, but if we find out that you are using it on a regular basis to just abuse people, we will ban you.
Providing your login information to a banned user so that said user can access the board is a violation of Subtutious' terms of service.
The Admins of this site do not take user bans lightly, and the decision to bar any user is based on our judgement of what will best serve the community as a whole.
Lastly, and I cannot stress this enough:
DO NOT BRING YOUR PERSONAL PISSING CONTESTS TO US AND EXPECT US TO HELP. We do not divulge personal information in any way shape or form, IP addresses, personal information that may not be displayed in profiles, etc. On top of this, we usually don't have this information! So if you're thinking of doing it, just save your fingers and again, take it elsewhere. The admins have too much going on in their own lives to play mediator between two parties over an issue that has nothing to do with us!
4) LESSER NO-NOs
This is a brief list of other conduct that while often tolerated, could be classified as abuse if things get out of hand. Keep in mind that this is ALWAYS an incomplete list. Don't think of them as rules, but rather guidelines.
-- "Post whoring" - or excessive pointless posting. You don't get a cookie for having the highest post count.
-- "Baiting" - Try to devise a subject line that reflects the post, avoid tricking people into a thread with "now that I have your attention" style tactics.
-- Thread "hijacking" - ie: turning the topic of the thread to a completely unrelated subject or even just basically a chat thread. Start another thread or use the PM system.
5) VIOLATION/ABUSE OF SERVICE
Generally, if we find that someone is doing something that they shouldn't, we will ask them to stop first, no harm done. However, if the abuse continues, or is severe enough to warrant it, the next time you try to log in you may be looking at a 403 (Access Forbidden for people green to HTTP). That's about the skinny of it.
----
That about lays it out, nice and clear stylee. Like I said, most people here know these things already, but it had to be said. Thanks for doing your part to keep the land clean.
